A Retrospective
by Robert Allen Nemer
Tychman Shapiro Gallery, Sabes Center Minneapolis
Nemer has been an artist since age 5 and continues to create today, over 81 years of expressing life through the five senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell, and even taste. Beyond these, they also draw upon deeper senses such as spatial awareness and balance, both essential to their artistic journey.
For Nemer, creating art requires engaging the whole self. Life itself becomes a process of shaping a world, expressing feelings, and translating sensory experience into form. Over time, his work evolved from charcoal drawings to chalk, clay, and ultimately painting.
Spatial awareness and balance have remained the most dominant forces in his work. After many years recreating nature and realism, Nemer began to experiment more deeply, creating art that reflects not just the world as it appears, but life as it is observed and felt—through spaces, colors, and shapes reimagined into a three-dimensional vision on a two-dimensional canvas.
For him, a canvas is like a page for a writer: where words build stories and moods, colors and forms convey passion, energy, and emotion. Both painters and writers seek to create meaning, spark emotion, and move others.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
For more than 65 years, Nemer has created vibrant abstract paintings, driven by a lifelong passion for color and form. As technology has transformed the world, it has also expanded his artistic practice. Building on three decades of painting, Nemer now translates his work into unique functional art pieces—pillows, scarves, dinnerware, and even puzzles—designed to enrich daily life and bring bold beauty into any space. Each piece carries its own story, inviting you to imagine his art not only on the wall but also as part of your home or a meaningful gift to be treasured.

Dreams | חלומות Dreaming Backward/Dreaming Forward
Birnberg Fine Art Gallery, Capp Center St. Paul
Tychman Shapiro Gallery, Sabes Center Minneapolis
Jewish Arts Collective Exhibit
This exhibit, inspired by the theme of dreams, features new works by the Jewish Arts Collective (JAC)—a community of artists engaged in collaborative study and creative expression at the intersection of Jewish thought and artistic practice.
Dreams have long held deep significance in Jewish tradition, from biblical stories to modern cultural icons. They represent tikvah (hope), a sustaining force throughout Jewish history. At the same time, dreams provide a glimpse into the unconscious, rich with symbolism and metaphor beyond our control. This exhibition explores how dreams fuel creativity and offer a powerful lens for imagining what lies beyond the possible.
Artists Include: Aarah Aizman, Aimee Orkin, Alison Morse, Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin, Carolyn Light Bell, Cathi Orkin Oskow, David Sherman, Deb Grossfield, Deborah Schein, Debra Rappaport, Diane Pecoraro, Diane Arenson, Eddie Estrin, Gloria Cooper, Ilene Krug Mojsilov, Jenna Zark, Jody Winger, Jon Gross, Joyce Lyon, Julie Marie Muskat, Leah Golberstein, Lynda Monick-Isenberg, Melanie Lieb, Margit Berman, Michal Sagar, Rani Halpern, Robyn Awend, Roslye Ultan, Sandra Baron, Sarah Rose Weinman, Sarah Routman, Sharon Zweigbaum, Susan Weinberg, Suzanne Fenton, Sylvia Horwitz & Toni Glotter.

A Partner Left Behind
Birnberg Fine Art Gallery, Capp Center St. Paul
Behind every story of a fallen soldier, there is another heart that breaks — the partner left behind.
This exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the emotions and experiences of the women who lost their loved ones in uniform. What does it mean to lose your other half? To carry love, pain, and memory in silence?
This exhibit was created by Yedidya Yasu, the St. Paul Shaliach (Israeli emissary) since 2023, through the Jewish Federation. His work focuses on building meaningful connections between Israel and the local Jewish community through cultural programs, education, and personal storytelling.
